Denise's Fan Fics
The term "fan fiction" (or FanFic) refers stories written by fans of various films or TV shows or whatever. I am a huge Star Wars fan--at least of the original 1970's-1980's trilogy (Episodes IV, V, VI). The prequels were yucky (the only interesting moments when Palpatine was manipulating the young queen), and although the sequels had some nice moments (some of which made me wonder if the writers had read my FanFics), my plots are actually better.
I've been told I should write my own entirely original books, and I am actually doing that. I'm working on my own original opus magnum, a series of 4 related novels, a collection I call Malley's Misfits, but that collection is not yet finished--although all the stories have been fairly well fleshed out in terms of their plots, and the first book is nearly complete. Hopefully I'll get around around to finishing all of them before too much longer. However, I would like to publish them together, and maybe make a little $$ from all the work I've put into them.
In the meantime, enjoy my fan fics, which received some very nice reviews on FanFiction.net when I first published them lo, those many years ago, and of which I am very proud.

Denise's Other FanFics
About My Star Wars Stories:
These are "AU" or "Alternate Universe" stories because the plots diverge from where the movies have gone. I wrote them pretty much after Return of the Jedi but before the "prequel" trilogy or "sequel" trilogies came out. Aside from the original trilogy (IV, V, VI), they do not really follow canon at all, but reflect where I would have taken the franchise if I had been in charge. :-)
In my SW universe, unlike some of the books that came out or the prequel/sequel movies, there are a number of differences. First of all, no Jedi Knight was ever as all-powerful as the books and movies seem to want to make Luke (and any other Jedi Knights) out to be. The first movie made them more into a rumor that wasn't particularly well-known, and that's pretty much how I left them. Furthermore, I don't think every Jedi Knight would have every Force-ability at his (or her) ready disposal. I decided that each "sensitive" would have one dominant trait (Luke's is telekinesis), with a rare instances of more than one dominant trait (especially in the villains). There might also be some non-dominant or weaker traits (for instance, my Luke has a non-dominant telepathy talent--but he really can only communicate with those he's close to or make a suggestion here and there), but these powers are much more limited in scope, and impose a huge drain on the one who wields it.
My heroes are also vulnerable. They have weaknesses. For most of my "Croyus Four" cycle, Luke has the major flaw of being over-protective of his daughter. He would rather protect her than train her or let her come into her own. Much too often, writers--especially SW writers--want to make their hero's invincible, but it doesn't work. Superman needs his kryptonite. He must have it! If there's no struggle, there's no story. Luke can't be invincible, or there would be no conflict, and conflict is central to any story. So my Luke is not invincible. Nor are my villains (even if they might think they're invincible), because after all, how would my hero ever defeat them if they were invincible? My villains in these stories are seemingly stronger than my heroes, in order to give my heroes a challenge to overcome. It is the hero who must find the villain's kryptonite, not the other way around--at least, in my stories.
So my stories are a bit different than what you will find in any canon, book or film.
Notes: I wrote (or at least conceived) my stories before all the Mara Jade books came out, and at one point I toyed with the idea of making Briande and Mara Jade into the same person by having a crossover device--a story I never finished that I was calling "Infinity's Gate" where the different AU universes came together--but I never finished that story as the "canon" of the books was getting too far afield of my own stories by the time I finished fleshing out my stories, which were left unpublished for a long time. You can still see a reference to "Infinity's Gate" in the prologue to one of my fanfiction.net publication (and readers wanted to know where they could find it, but as I said, I never got around to finishing it--I had a basic plot and a few scenes, but that was about all--meant to finish but just never got around to doing it). My FanFiction.net publications ran into some issues due to old email address I no longer had access to and a password I couldn't remember, and then I created a new account, which apparently ran into some "space limitation" issues (possibly the site rather than my user info), so then I created a third account. It was all fairly confusing to anyone who was trying to follow the stories in sequence, but I did have a couple of hard-core fans who stuck with it. One was a decent writer who had some fairly interesting ideas about giving Ben Kenobi a love interest of his own (one of Queen Amidala's bodyguards).
I also need to note that in my AU universe, 1) The Jedi are not a well-known group, although a number of individuals (especially older ones), recollect that they were some kind of protective agency. and 2) the Luke-Leia brother-sister relationship is not well-known, and is largely kept as a family secret.
Regarding the publishing of my stories: I kept the stories to myself for the longest time, then published them on FanFiction.net, after I discovered that site, and all of my stories received positively reviews, albeit by a smaller audience than I would have liked. One reader contacted me and asked to re-publish my stories on a website called "Star Wars and Golf" or something like that. That site needed some password access, so I was never able to see them on the site, and I have no idea if they are still there.
There is one more thing I want to make one thing clear:
I wrote these stories.
I did! By myself!
And although I listened to feedback from one or two early readers, the ultimate plot/dialogue/action decisions were mine. Every word written is mine! The original characters of Luke, Han, and Leia, and the original Star Wars universe were created by George Lucas, but these stories are mine! The products of my own imagination, set down in words.
And I'm damn proud of them!
And now, I invite you to read them. I share them with you, freely, in the hope that you will enjoy them, too.
May the Force be with you.

(Takes place in the aftermath of Prophecy's Child.)
Etan Lippa is gone, but it's a long road of recovery for Brenna, who is not only psychologically damaged but has also lost her powers. Will she terminate the pregnancy, or see the Dark prophecy--written in Yoda's own hand--come to fruition? Or could there possibly be a flaw in the prophecy that would allow her to keep the child she already loves? Meanwhile, Rupert finds a young, nearly-dead castaway and takes him back to Medea Two for medical treatment, The boy needs an organ donor, and a routine search of the Afterlife's medical banks is made. Against all odds, a donor with enough of a genetic match is found: it's Brenna! Could her mother Briande still be alive? If so, why has she never contacted Luke through the Force?

The Justice of Clan Tahl (https://www.a-benign-conspiracy.com/the-justice-of-clan-tahl.html)
(Takes place some months after The Face in the Shadows.)
Brenna sets for the planet Sarcopia. She is determined to punish herself for all of her perceived weaknesses by atoning for the death of the old man whose heart she stopped. Neither Luke nor Rupert--nor even the needs of the new baby--can stop her. Luke accompanies her, ostensibly just as a pilot, but with a secret plan to stop the threat of severe punishment that Brenna now faces. When that plan backfires and Luke's lie is found out, he himself must face the harsh punishment of the Sarcopian clan that now has Brenna in its thrall. He can't protect her. And that is the worst punishment of all! (The culmination of Brenna's "Heroine's Journey.")

Unfinished Star Wars Fan Fics
I had some other Star Wars FanFic stories started (but not finished), taking place The Justice of Clan Tahl. These are not finished, so I will not post them, but I'll tease a little of what they are about:
Shadows of the Mind: As Brenna tries to regain her strength, her progress is hampered by "voices" coming from the walls of her office. The walls are torn down to reveal a little girl who has been frozen in carbonite since the time of the original Brenna Brellis. The child is a "Memorist" who has been tortured by extremely graphic Dark images and sounds and remembers every image/sound vividly. Meanwhile, Aren arrives at Croyus Four with the news that his father has been killed and Elaan is being held by the bonders. Luke and Rupert return to Aren's homeworld to rescue Elian and bring her to Croyus Four. How can Elaan, who was physically and mentally brutalized herself, help the poor child who lives in a world of horrific sights and sounds? And can a simple mortu be the key to unlock the child's salvation?
Bright Star: Leia gifts Brenna and Rupert with the honeymoon they never had--a luxury family cruise aboard the maiden voyage of the new Bright Star space-liner. Rupert. has a prior commitment and will join Brenna and young Han after a short delay. Brenna enjoys a bit of pampering for a short time, but finds herself more drawn to the ship's design, which is remarkable. But her eye for engineering makes her realize a modification that had been made to the structure might result in a major malfunction if the vessel is pushed closer to the limits of its purported specifications. Despite Brenna's warnings, the captain decides to make up for lost time by ignoring the caution.
The Healing Circle: After successfully completing one of the Center's first missions on an outer-rim planet, Luke falls victim to an unknown parasite to which the natives of the world--and anyone remaining on the world--seem immune. The cause of the problem is soon rooted out, but the damage is done. Luke's organs are shutting down, and the others who left the planet to return to the Center are already dead. Luke's only chance is for Brenna and Elaan to return to Elaan's adopted homeworld and track down the healer Jenin, and bring Jenin back to the Center.
The Wizard of Kastral: This is basically Jenin's story, with no Luke or Brenna involved, taking place after The Face in the Shadows and before, during, and after The Healing Circle. Jenin takes on an apprentice who, while not a gifted healer, is a Wizard-born with an extraordinary heritage. Can Jenin reconcile with her father while escaping the Sniffers? Is there a chance that Jenin and Jenin's new apprentice could develop a relationship beyond just some rudimentary herb-craft teachings? Might Jenin's apprentice learn to see past the horrible scars marring Jenin's face and return Jenin's romantic regard?
Slaver's Grip: Brenna's research has tracked down a possible half-sibling of Rupert's--to a slave-culture world where the slavers use a highly addictive drug, known as "Grip," to keep the slaves in line. Withdrawal is extremely painful, and must be carefully controlled, and research into the drug and its effects is highly illegal in the New Republic. The woman Luke and Rupert find has been purposefully addicted at a "high-maintenance" level, and she is willing to do anything--anything!--to get her next "fix." Luke and Rupert enlist the help of an ex-Gripper "street rat" first to find the woman, and then to get a large enough supply of the drug to wean the woman off it, and Brenna enlists the Clan Tahl's help to make the rehabilitation successful. If they can rehabilitate this one Grip addict, there might be a chance to get Grip out of the hands of the slavers across the planet.
Shadows of Guilt: As Aren comes of age, he decides it's time to return to his homeworld and use the knowledge he gained from Luke to help overturn the current government and establish something more benign. Elaan decides to go with him, but for a different purpose--one Luke would not agree with if he knew. When Luke finally comes to realize that Elaan is no longer Briande, can he accept the more flawed Elaan for who she is--despite the act of revenge that Elaan painstakingly and unrepentantly wrought? And can Luke and Elaan finally find their HEA despite it?

The Young Riders
I really liked some of the episodes of the first season of The Young Riders, which inspired a number of stories in my head. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there, usually devolving into one of the main characters getting shot somewhere near the end of the show, and then being perfectly fine in the following week's episode (thus my story Wounds, dealing with Lou getting shot early in the story, and then dealing with the subsequent infection that was commonplace for gunshot wounds.) Lou was my favorite character, and I felt she. was treated very unfairly in the show. For example, one episode had a "Founder's Day race," which Buck was meant to win. Every other character--except for Lou!--had some sort of reason for dropping out of the race and not winning it. The fact that Lou was seen in the beginning of the race but nowhere at the end of the race (despite her supposedly being one of the "best riders" of the station) really pissed me off--and ended up inspiring a couple of stories, I had actually written another story, called Before the Pony, wherein I gave Lou a backstory prior to her joining the Pony Express. I didn't publish that in Fanfiction.net (or here) because I eventually decided to use that same backstory for one of my characters in my Malley's Misfits cycle. But The Race was a sort of sequel to Before the Pony, and while I do include a horse race in Misfits, it's necessarily not the same exact story, so I went ahead and included The Race here, and let Before the Pony (with some name changes and other changes) become a large section of Malley's Girl in my Malley's Misfits series. I also thought that there should be some sort of tension between Lou and Jimmy, so I gave it to them in Wounds and its sequel April Fools. I did also have a story called Christmas Presence, which I never published on Fanfiction.net, When I wrote it, I was trying to build on the tension between Jimmy and the Kid, and the apparent love-triangle that at one time seemed to be developing, but eventually decided that the story was largely fairly silly, although it did emphasize that the main danger to Pony Express riders was not so much outlaws and Indians, as it was the weather (although I did also like my joke about the initials "WC" standing for "Water Closet" instead of "William Cody"). I might or might not ever decide to post that one here. Not one of my better works--although I did hand it (in script form) to Josh Brolin when I met him once. Don't think he ever read it, though--and probably didn't deserve to be read--but it was more of a "Jimmy" story than, say, The Race.

Wounds: While on a run, Lou gets shot by an escaped army deserter who wants her horse. She manages to get back to the station, but even though the bullet hasn't hit any vital organs, it has to be dug out, and the infection is potentially deadly. Some light-hearted as well as angsty moments in the story, and develops the Lou/Jimmy tension. References William Cody's actual claim that he set a relay record for the Pony Express. The right/left shoulder incident harkens back to an actual incident in my days as a kindergartener, when my Mom would paint my finger with bitter apple in an effort to get me to stop sucking my finger and twirling my hair. (You'll understand my little "trick" when you read the story.) On FFN at https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5936352/1/Wounds
April Fools: When the shipping company that owns the Pony Express orders two of the riders to run a shipment of goods on its last leg, no one wants to take it on the necessary leg. It's not what they signed on for. But when Lou draws one of the short straws (actually, a piece of paper marked by an "X"), Jimmy pretends to draw the other in order to accompany her and try to win back her good graces. But when it turns out that the shipment is actually crates of rifles, the job suddenly becomes extremely dangerous. With a group of outlaws hot on their trail, Lou and Jimmy have to find a way to work together to finish their mission without getting killed. (Note: the title is a reference to the fact that the Civil War started in April, 1861.) On FFN at https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6313118/1/April-Fools
The Race: While out on a run, Lou rides past a stage coach that just happens to contain not only Sam Clemens (Mark Twain--who wrote about a Pony Express rider galloping past his stage coach on an actual trip he took out west), and Lou's old boss, Charlie Garrison, who originally taught her how to ride a horse and was training her to be a jockey. The problem is, Lou's horse Lightning was not--exactly--honestly come by. Lou knows she's got to make a quick escape if she doesn't want to be hung as a horse thief, but Charlie is much more interested in Lou than in the horse. Meanwhile, the Kid's excessive pride in his horse Katie causes him to make a foolish bet, pitting Katie against a horse being ridden by a professional jockey who just happens to be Lou's former nemesis. Will it all work out? And can something happening during the race inspire one of Mark Twain's most well-known tales?(Inspired by my cursory research into the "monkey crouch" racing position, with references to the writings of Mark Twain.)
