Introduction--
Sam Pate was a radio broadcaster for the KBOX news station. He was listening to the DPD broadcast on Channel 2, and relayed the information that he heard over the police radio into the public airways of KBOX, and then when he realized something BIG was happening, linked in to the KBOX channel's New York affiliate.
Most people with at least a passing interest in the JFK Assassination are familiar with Pate's voice famously saying, "It appears as though something has happened in the motorcade route." as can be heard on the LP album "Four Days," which can be found on YouTube (e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoMx9uSPxYk&t=101s)::

However, most people do NOT realize that this was NOT Pate's original, authentic broadcast, but was a "re-creation" of that original broadcast, made afterwards. The original tape of Pate's original broadcast went missing in the days following the assassination, and Pate was fired from his job (2 reasons given: 1) for leaving the phone line to NYC "open," or, for "reduction in work force") on the day (or workday) immediately following the assassination, despite having a wife and family to support.
Both the disappearance of the original tapes and Pate's firing are cause for concern.
But I think I know why they occurred. And I'll explain why below. I also think I know what was in Pate's original broadcast that didn't quite make it to the "Four Days" recreation.

I've written a book supporting the Donahue theory of the assassination (i.e., an accidental shot from a secret service agent. I've come across a comment from someone who heard that statement on the radio, and I would like to confirm it. Was that the reason for the "re-creation" of the broadcast?
(Response) Sorry, Mr. Pate passed away in 2009. I am his daughter. There is a lot speculation as to why the original tape "disappeared" after the FBI came through the station. The only other people who had the original broadcast is the Associated Press, as they were getting live through the station phone. They remain uncooperative. Sorry. Wish we could be more help. Sam was reporting live from his mobile unit which was parked on I35. He was simply reporting what he heard over the police radio he had installed in the mobile unit. If you read the transcripts from the police radio you will see the correlation.

I thought your father was reporting from Dealey Plaza, either from the TX School Book Depository or from the mobile truck next to it. (Response) Dealey Plaza is right off of I35. He was parked so he could report as they drove by but was able to track the motorcade because of the police radio. When he heard the police mention gunshots, he floored it to dealey plaza, passing the motorcade en route. He then began reporting from Dealey Plaza. Here is an interesting tidbit. The Missing reports included reports from TSBD, 6th Floor museum supplied audio for documentary about Ruby. Guess what you can hear in teh documentary? Sam Pate from within the TSBD. Something fishing going on there. Gary Mack has never responded to my request for a copy of that audio.

From what I understand reading other online info about your father, he was fired from KBOX the day after the assassination, but then they asked him to "re-create" his broadcast. I thought it may have been to hide the number of shots and/or a possible announcement that "a secret service man has accidentally shot the President." At the very least, I believe it was to make the assassination appear to conform to the "official" version of events. Did your father ever talk to you about that "re-creation" of his initial broadcast? There is also a very interesting article by Carl Bernstein (of Woodward and Bernstein/Watergate fame) describing strong ties between the CIA and the Press, which may explain why the AP has been uncooperative. Just do a search for "Bernstein, CIA, press" and you'll find it. I will have to go over some of the photos from Dealey Plaza from that day. I remember reading that the original tapes went missing after a raid by FBI or Secret Service on the KBOX office. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the source for that. (This conversation might have been the source, or I might have already read it elsewhere, before or after my conversation with Pate's daughter, I'm not sure.) But here we have his daughter, unprompted, saying that the original tapes "'disappeared' after the FBI came through the office."

1. Pate was in his van on Stemmons Freeway at the Trade-Mart exit at the time of the shooting (van's location contradicted by Pate in later interview/s).

3. Pate was fired from his job on November 23 (Saturday) "due to a cut in personnel." (Actually, I think he was fired on Monday, November 25, for what he said in his broadcast). And
4. Most importantly, the majority of his voice recording heard on the "Four Days" album was NOT the authentic broadcast of what happened, but was a re-creation made (in a studio) "several days after he was dismissed from KBOX radio station."

It is from this source that I learned that Pate was not compensated, no pay, no royalties. for his recreation work for the "Four Days" album. I had previously assumed that the now unemployed Pate, fired just days earlier, had agreed to record his recreation at KBOX studio because he had a family to feed, but apparently that was not the case. Possibly he agreed to do it because he had been coerced with the threat that if he didn't cooperate, things could be made very difficult for him (his firing being an example)? That's my speculation, of course, but one wonders why he would agree to "re-create" his now famous broadcast immediately after having been fired. I also wonder if he recreated it from a script, or from memory, and if he had been given any special instructions prior to recording.
Could Pate's agreeing to make the re-creation of his broadcast without pay have been because he felt sorry for an agent who was just trying to do his job and had an unfortunate accident with his faulty weapon? Or could it have been that Pate was pressured into making that "recreation" with threats that his career could be further sabotaged (after he had already been fired) if he didn't? However, Ms. Cruz was an ear-witness to a radio broadcast that she heard on the day of the assassination. Given that Sam Pate's KBOX station was an affiliate with a New York station and that when Pate realized he was on to something BIG, he asked to be put through to the New York station, she had to have been listening to Pate's original broadcast. And given what she heard that day, it's no wonder that the original tapes disappeared and Pate was asked to make the recreation.

Trademart Announcement
While the people at the Trademark were waiting for the motorcade that never showed, an announcement was made that there had been a "mishap" in the motorcade. This was made before a later announcement that there had been a shooting.

Where did they get their information about the "mishap" or accident? It had to have been either through the DPD channel being reserved for "Special Events," or through Sam Pate's radio broadcast based on the DPD communications.
I should also note that the descriptor of this particular video reads thus: "Department of the Treasury. U.S. Secret Service. (1943 - 2003) ARC Identifier 13220 / Local Identifier 87.7 1963 JFK EXHIBIT No. 7: FILM OF TRADE MART IN DALLAS". It's not found on every YouTube video of the TradeMart. All the others begin with the later "shooting" announcement, with the earlier "mishap" announcement not included.
Even those later announcements of the shooting specifically say it occurred "at Elm and Houston" as the motorcade approached the Triple Underpass, not just "on Elm." "Elm and Houston" is, of course, where I place the limousine for the first Oswald shot. But that's somewhat off-topic for this discussion on Sam Pate's presumed broadcast that "a Secret Service man accidentally shot the President."

DPD Tapes
Since Sam Pate was listening to the original DPD broadcast to make his over-air public broadcast, a study of those tapes and transcripts is also of interest. As of this writing, I am working on that page, and I will post it when it's ready. In the meantime, I will summarize here a few points of interest. First, however, it must be noted that there were two separate channels, utilizing two separate recording systems. Ch-1 (Channel 1) was used for normal police business. Ch-2 (Channel 2) was used for "Special Events," like the Presidential motorcade. Ch-1 is of interest primarily because it contains the "suspect impulses" of gunshot noises from a DPD motorcycle officer's microphone being stuck in the "on" position. It was running continuously during the period in question. Ch-2 is what Sam Pate was listening to. This channel's recording system was sound-activated with recording shutting off after no sound was broadcast for a certain amount of time. After the shots were fired, the broadcasts were so frequent that it, too, ran continuously.
There was funny business occurring with both channels. Here is a summary of some of the points of interest:
1. The current dicta belts from the Ch-1 recording are so degraded (through repeated playbacks or whatever) that they are virtually unusable for study. What can be studied are tape recordings (reel-to-reel) made from the tapes, supposedly "first-generation."
2. These reel-to-reel recordings contain an electronic "hum" indicating that the actual source was a previous recording made before the extant recording/s.
3. The ch-1 "gunshots" are inaudible to the human ear. This was made possible through the use of Automatic Gain Control (AGC) at some point in the recording process, although people in the know at DPD told assassination researcher Gary Mack (who later became curator for the Sixth floor Museum at Dealey Plaza) that there was no AGC used as part of the DPD recording process. Nevertheless, despite the AGC processed recordings, enough information survived in the audio for experts to identify spikes indicating gunshots and echoes in their analyses.
4. The Sonalyst "Half Century Report" commissioned by Larry Sobato found evidence of a "splice" in the Channel 1 broadcast, although this occurred after the suspected gunshot sounds.
5. As researcher Dr. Donald Thomas learned, the multiple "cross-talks" after the shots on channels 1 and 2 do not align, despite both channels running continuously after the shooting (due to the stuck mic of ch-1 and the frequency of broadcasts on ch-2. This is true no matter which of the cross-talks is used as the base reference. Align any single cross-talk, and none of the other will align., despite both systems running continuously and simultaneously.
The first four points--or at least, points 2-4, are specific to ch-1, not the ch-2 channel Sam Pate was listening to. However, this evidence does indicate a willingness to alter evidence. The Zapruder film was altered (see https://www.a-benign-conspiracy.com/zapruder-film-alteration.html) and the DPD recordings were also altered.
I can only conclude that the ch-1 recording was altered, by running it through AGC to make the gunshots inaudible and editing out some unknown utterance where the ch-1 splice occurs. As far as I know, no one has run a splice analysis on ch-2 (where the "Secret Service man accidentally shot the President" utterance likely occurred and was relayed over KBOX and thence to the NYC affiliate by Sam Pate, and was edited out of that tape. The editing of both the ch-1 and ch-2 tapes explains the presence of the 50 Hz electronic hum in the ch-1 tape (no one has analyzed ch-2 for this hum) and why multiple cross-talks cannot be made to align no matter which single cross-talk is used as the base-point, despite both systems running continuously and simultaneously.
There does seem to be, however, one unaltered tape of ch-2 that existed at one time. Ira David Wood III created a chronology of the JFK assassination using transcripts of the DPD police radio band broadcasts, and the transcript he accessed apparently contained the utterance, "There's been an accident. The President's involved."

As far as I know, no one has run a splice analysis on ch-2 (where the "Secret Service man accidentally shot the President" utterance likely occurred and was relayed over KBOX and thence to the NYC affiliate by Sam Pate, and was edited out of that tape. The editing of both the ch-1 and ch-2 tapes explains the presence of the 50 Hz electronic hum in the ch-1 tape (no one has analyzed ch-2 for this hum) and why multiple cross-talks cannot be made to align no matter which single cross-talk is used as the base-point, despite both systems running continuously and simultaneously.
There does seem to be, however, one unaltered tape of ch-2 that existed at one time. Ira David Wood III created a chronology of the JFK assassination using transcripts of the DPD police radio band broadcasts, and the transcript he accessed apparently contained the utterance, "There's been an accident. The President's involved."

Around this time, James Underwood, assistant news director at KRLD-TV in Dallas hears Amos L. Euins, a 15-year-old boy,
tell a motorcycle officer he “had seen a colored man lean out of the window upstairs and he had a rifle.” Underwood interviews Euins on
the spot, asking the boy is the man he saw was “white or black.” Euins replies, “It was a colored man.” “Are you sure it was a colored
man?” Underwood asks. Euins answers, “Yes sir.” Euins is taken to the Dallas Sheriff’s office, where an affidavit is prepared for him.
The affidavit states that the man Euins has seen is “a white man.”
Dallas police detain a Latin man whom they have seized on Elm Street. (Deputy Sheriff Roger Craig states that this is the
same man he will see driving a Rambler station wagon that picks up a man in front of the TSBD a few minutes later.) The Latin man is
released when he indicates he can not speak English.
Police Ban (Channel 2) -- Report of a witness to the shooting who has been hit by a ricochet. “Has the TSBD been sealed off?” Someone
asks what has happened. Curry replies that there’s been an accident. The President is involved. Report that officers are now surrounding
and searching TSBD building. Six or 7 more people may have been shot.

I managed to unearth Wood's contact information, and asked him where he got this information; he replied that it came from the transcripts of the DPD ch-2 broadcasts. However, I could find no such transcript of the ch-2 recording containing the underlined information. Presumably that transcript exists (or at least, existed past tense) somewhere, but so far, I have not found it, despite a diligent search for DPD channel 2 transcripts online.
